The Whitsundays were so named by Captain Cook
on his arrival to the area to mark the day - Whit Sunday. He was
actually a day out, not realising that he passed the international
dateline on the way.
The Whitsundays are a series of islands off the
coast of Queensland. Some are still privately owned but the majority
are controled by the Marine Parks Service.
The main attractions are the rich coral life,
white beaches and rugged forests.
