This website is primarily the photo album of New Zealand and The Big Trip but seems to have grown into a whole lot of other things too….

About our trip
Basically the timing was good as it will ever be for both of us to take a career break for a year and do the travelling thing. We made up a list of all the places we would like to visit and used that as a basis for our ‘Round the World’ trip. After a holiday last year in Australia we both wanted to go back for longer. It seemed better to go via America first and back through South East Asia last so that when money is short at the end we will be somewhere cheap. Our respective flats in Brighton were rented out and all our stuff boxed and stored. And so on 10th September we set off on our travels with a just rucksack on our back (the scuba gear, camera tripod, and laptop were in our hand luggage and therefore don’t count).

How does New Zealand fit into this?
Oh yes, well it worked out that in April 2002 Kevin got a job for 3 months with Air New Zealand in Auckland. So instead of incorporating this fantastic country into our year out, Laura joined him for the last 2 months and we got to live there temporarily. We had a great time and met some lovely people. We came back to the UK during August to pack and say Goodbye to Brighton, friends and family. We’ll be going back to The Land of the Long White Cloud again on The Big Trip.
